Winning First Place at the Rollins Ideas for Good Competition: A Legendary Experience with a Charitable Twist
I'm thrilled to share that our team won first place at the Rollins Ideas for Good Competition, a month-long event dedicated to finding innovative solutions to social challenges. The competition encouraged participants to tackle issues close to their hearts, and for us, that meant focusing on making legendary experiences accessible to all.
Our Idea: Six Seats for Bidding with a Charitable Cause
We came into the competition with an idea centered around a seat bidding application for sports games, specifically for the Orlando Magic. Our goal was to enhance the fan experience by allowing people to bid on tickets for available seats. But we wanted to go further. Inspired by the Magic's mission to create unforgettable moments, we decided to add a charitable component to our solution.
Our idea allowed ticket holders to donate their seats if they weren’t going to use them. These tickets would then be distributed to individuals—students, teens, or families—who wouldn't otherwise have the opportunity to attend a game. By doing this, we created a way for those who might not have the financial means to experience the magic of a live game. It was all about combining technology with social impact, ensuring that everyone could enjoy the thrill of the game, regardless of their background.
Workshops and Development: A Month of Innovation
The competition lasted over a month and included several workshops at Rollins College. These sessions helped us refine our idea, build a solid business model, and ensure that the technology behind our solution was both innovative and feasible. The workshops were instrumental in guiding us as we combined seat bidding technology with a charitable cause, bringing together fans and the community in a meaningful way.
The Magic of a Good Cause
For us, the most rewarding aspect of this project was finding a way to align with the Orlando Magic's goal of delivering a "legendary experience," while making a positive social impact. The charitable component added a layer of purpose to our idea—ensuring that the thrill of attending a live game wasn’t reserved only for those who could afford it, but extended to those who could benefit the most from the experience.
By connecting unused seats to underprivileged youth, we aimed to create unforgettable moments for individuals who might not otherwise have the chance to attend. The power of sports to bring joy and excitement is unmatched, and we’re proud that our solution could help make that a reality for so many.
The Win and Looking Forward
When we were announced as the first-place winners, it felt surreal. This project was a labor of love, and knowing that it could have a real-world impact made the victory even sweeter. Throughout the competition, we learned so much—not only about developing innovative solutions but about the importance of giving back and creating opportunities for others.
I’m incredibly grateful to Rollins College for hosting this incredible competition and to the team for their hard work and dedication. Winning first place is just the beginning. We’re excited to continue developing this idea and hope to see it implemented, allowing more people to experience the magic of a live game while doing some good along the way.
Here’s to innovation, social good, and the power of community! 🚀🏆
